The Val d'Anniviers in Monique Jacot's black and white photographs is a place of many facets and contrasts, a place where the natural world meets the imaginary.  ‘I give form to another life, that of the imaginary’. Monique Jacot

"In my subjective view, Monique Jacot's world of my valley seems to me to be made up above all of traces and remains. In this universe of disorder where rocks, piles of stones, jagged wood, snow, ice and frozen earth, uncertain waters, moraines and plains of the in-between seasons, ravines... there is an air of the end of the world. Between clouds and darkened skies with holes in them, you can recognise Anniviers, but a different Anniviers. In the nothingness there is an infinite promise. As in Monique Jacot's gift of images." Bernard Crettaz

"Artists see things that others do not. It seems to me that for Monique Jacot, there are no longer any complete, intact treasures. She reconstructs emotions using fragments of memory and translates them into landscapes tormented by the passage of time and the weather. This nature, jostled to the extreme, wounded and renewed, speaks to our imagination and echoes our own experiences.
Therein lies the disturbing, overwhelming aspect of Monique Jacot's photographs. To the extent that we share their questions, they bring us face to face with ourselves. They reveal our troubles, our feelings, our fears. And that is the essential purpose of every authentic and powerful work." Jean-Henry Papilloud
