Dobsoninan Initiation

St-Luc, Tignousa Culture & Heritage For children

Would you like to learn how to find your way around the sky and use a telescope?

Then this is the activity for you, whether you're a beginner or an experienced astronomer, alone or with your family (children aged 10 and over).

After a night-time funicular ride up the mountain, you'll arrive at the observation site near the OFXB (2200m altitude). The activity leader will explain the main optical principles behind the telescopes, which you will then learn to operate.
These telescopes - of which there are 5, i.e. one for every two people - are of the Dobson type: they are very easy to handle compared with traditional telescopes, so you can get to grips with them quickly, without any prior technical or scientific knowledge. The rest of the time will be devoted to discovering the starry sky and the celestial treasures it holds.

You are at the controls of the 200mm telescope - which gives you the superpowers of a 200mm diameter eye - with the host there to guide you. The evening of observation ends with a funicular ride back to the village of Saint-Luc.
